An often overlooked reality of the Gospel is that one day the Lord will return to judge the earth in righteousness. It shouldn’t be overlooked, because it is the reason for the incarnation, that there would be an escape in Christ Jesus. So with this reality in mind, a question should come to mind- “What sort of people should we be?”

Memory can be a useful ally as we follow Christ. In 2 Peter 3:1-2, we read Peter reminding the 1st century church so that they will remain faithful. So, what is the reminder? How do we employ the same reminder so that we too will remain faithful?

All of 2 Peter 2 deals with false teachers… and what normally comes to mind when we think of false teachers would be considered an obvious source. But false teaching isn’t always obvious. Jesus said you will recognize them by their fruits, and that is what Peter focuses on.

It’s possible that after enduring as exiles, surrounded by suffering, Peter’s audience were asking the question, “How Long, O Lord?” Peter’s pastoral response to them is wonderful; he says, “The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials.”
