What goes through your mind when you think of the word “Church?” Often we think of things that we want, or things that we don’t like… in this message we consider the cause of Corinth’s spiritual immaturity and ultimately find it is because this church wasn’t focused on God. The church in Corinth was called out for something that is often found acceptable in our own selves, spiritual infancy. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-4 we read Paul’s charge for them to grow up, to become more than human; this should be the norm for Christ’s church everywhere.

That line is “We Preach Christ Crucified;” and your perspective of that line is determined by where you stand- either perishing or being saved.

Corinth was a church divided… Thankfully we are able to benefit from their division because in our text (1 Corinthians 1:10-17) we are given something to focus on when we find our own local churches in a state of division.

“Grace and Peace” seems to be a common greeting when you read through the New Testament letters. However, it doesn’t mean that “Grace and Peace” is a common idea. In 1 Corinthians 1:4-9, Paul tells us how grace brings us (and continues to bring us) into friendship (peace) with God.

This message is an introduction to our series in 1 Corinthians… One of the things I wish more people knew is that the Christian has been made holy by Christ so that they can be holy for Christ. This is how our letter begins, a reminder of our calling in Christ Jesus.
