I have heard Isaiah 9:6 too many times to recount. This message is an attempt to see this from a new perspective, what does it mean to hear “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given?”

Our theme for 2016 is to know Jesus more through His word; part of that includes seeing that the Bible is completely a book about Jesus. As we prepare for Christmas we turn to Isaiah 9 to see Jesus as the promise foretold- A light in the darkness. (Photos used in the original message are included)

John 11 is a story about death’s defeat to Jesus. It is a foretaste, a small example, of what will happen when Christ returns.

Jesus was able to multiply 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to feed 5,000, but it points to a question we must ask ourselves, Is it at all possible that we want God for something He provides rather than the something that He is? “I am basically a good person,” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that said. The church in Sardis teaches us that the absence of immorality does not guarantee the presence of goodness. The only thing that quantifies goodness is the presence of Christ living and moving among His people. Revelation 3:1-6 forces us to ask the difficult question- am I living like, and becoming like, Christ Jesus? The alternative is spiritual death.
