Does our perspective of the church match up to Christ’s? It seems that a lot of our estimation comes from our own preference… proof of that is the church of Philadelphia. “I am basically a good person,” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that said. The church in Sardis teaches us that the absence of immorality does not guarantee the presence of goodness. This letter was written to a church on the other side of the world, that existed almost 2,000 years ago. But while we might look for how this has nothing to do with us, we find that it still speaks today. In fact, the message to the church in Ephesus- continue in faith, hope, and love- is a message we still need to hear.
