In an effort to appease the conscience, unbelievers have been quick to dismiss the Gospel since the beginning. But can we dismiss it? Peter writes to remind us of the truth of the Gospel and the authority of God’s Word.

In 2 Peter 1:12-15, Peter gives us an indication that his life is about to come to an end. In these few verses he tells us how he plans to spend his life here on earth- to always remind us of the truth. The reason; because memory is one of the tools that God uses to shape and form us in the image of Christ.

The term “Christian” has been expanded to include ideas, practices, and even people, who are not “in Christ,” so how do I ensure that I keep growing in my faith? Peter gives a list of seven things that we supplement to our faith. (This recording ends abruptly due to an incident at WCC that day.)

All of the gospel is a promise. All of it. So what happens when a doubt sneaks in because we’ve known people who have broken their promises, or who have tried, but couldn’t keep their promises? Is God like that? And what does He promise us? 2 Peter 1:3-4 is still considered the introduction, so this is in a lot of ways just a sneak peek at what the rest of the letter has in store for us.

Psalm 121, a song of ascents, teaches us the necessity of the church- the body of Christ that a Christian is supposed to be a part of. The necessity comes because we have fears, we have doubts, and we need to be encouraged by these brothers and sisters. This message comes to us from Brian Lowery who is Campus minister at Lincoln Christian University.

Our culture has done a fine job of softening our fear of the devil… and yet, Peter urges us in his parting words to watch out for him because he is a devouring lion. The reason is because I, as a Christian, want so badly to be like Jesus- but we have an enemy who hates anything that resembles Jesus… So, how do we endure? Our text to close out this study in Peter is 1 Peter 5:8-11.

How do we keep from drowning in worry? Not by avoidance, distraction, or anything like those… no, we Christians can only keep from drowning in worry when we keep casting our anxieties upon our Savior who cares for us. Our text is 1 Peter 5:7, but Psalm 55 is a good parallel to read alongside this.

You need to listen to this! If you are a person, pride is a problem that we need to pay attention to since “God opposes the proud.” In our text (1 Peter 5:5-6) Peter writes counsel on how to keep pride in check.
