A Deadly Sin We Often Ignore
April 10, 2019
If there ever was a sin with which we look the other way it’s pride… but not in other people! No, with other people we recognize it and label it as “Arrogance.” But we often are more lenient with our selves, aren’t we? That’s part of the danger of pride… it causes us to the lift ourselves up and push other people down. Corinth is evidence of what happens when pride is allowed to grow within a church. Our text is 1 Corinthians 4:8-13
Found Out
April 3, 2019
There will come a day when everyone will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. The Bible refers to that day as both great and terrible… While that day will be a rude awakening for many people who have allowed themselves to think they are safe, our text (1 Corinthians 4:1-7) draws out what it means for the genuine servant of Christ.
You Belong to Jesus
March 26, 2019
There are a lot of different ideas out there about what it means to be a Christian, a member of Christ’s church. Where we must begin, what must be foundational is that we belong to Jesus- He is our Lord.
The Foundation God Demands
March 20, 2019
1 Corinthians 3:10-17 is all about how you, a believing Christian, are part of Christ’s church, and that you are being built together on the the foundation of Jesus Christ to be a strong, immovable, and lasting church.
The Church- Humble Servants of God
March 13, 2019
What goes through your mind when you think of the word “Church?” Often we think of things that we want, or things that we don’t like… in this message we consider the cause of Corinth’s spiritual immaturity and ultimately find it is because this church wasn’t focused on God. So it begs the question, how do we know we are focusing on God, especially when it comes to “Church?”
Grow Up
March 5, 2019
The church in Corinth was called out for something that is often found acceptable in our own selves, spiritual infancy. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-4 we read Paul’s charge for them to grow up, to become more than human; this should be the norm for Christ’s church everywhere.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
February 26, 2019
There are times when the Holy Spirit is overlooked, we forget that He is the third person of the Trinity, we forget that He is almighty, we forget that He dwells within the believer. Corinth needed to be reminded of the Holy Spirit’s work in 1 Corinthians 2:6-16
Why Are You Saved?
February 20, 2019
When the rich young ruler approached Jesus he asked, “What must I do to be saved?” It’s a great question, but we find out from the context that he thought pretty highly of ourselves. When Paul writes to the Corinthian church he reminds them that God chose what was foolish, what was weak, and what was low… proving that Christ is the only reason anyone has in regards to salvation.
A Difference of Perspective
February 13, 2019
When Paul speaks about God choosing foolishness to shame the wise in 1 Corinthians 1, he isn’t prescribing that we should chase after foolish things. Instead, we are seeing a clear line being drawn. That line is “We Preach Christ Crucified;” and your perspective of that line is determined by where you stand- either perishing or being saved.
