“The Church” is not an optional supplement for a Christian, but something that God has ordained. So it should be that when Satan tries to create rifts within The Church, we seek to preserve the relationship that God has created through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:12-14 provides us with a few questions to ask ourselves when we find ourselves at odds with any brother or sister in Christ so that we might continue on together.

Continuing on in the subject of suffering, Paul now writes another aspect of God’s purposes in our suffering- to learn dependence, primarily upon God (and certainly not on ourselves), but secondarily upon His people as well.

Suffering, hardship, trouble, whatever you want to call it, is a guarantee in this fallen world- even more so for the Christian. While the question we often ask is “Why?” there is a glimpse of a different question in 2 Corinthians 1:3-7- How? How does God use sufferings to shape and form us?

Psalm 46:10 says “Be still, and know that I am God.” The reality is that too often we allow busy-ness to crowd out that stillness, to encroach upon our friendship with God. So how does the Christian live out verse 10? Especially when life is sometimes so frantic?

There are many military references throughout the New Testament writings. The reason is because it is an excellent metaphor to describe the Christian faith- we are in the fight of our lives! 1 Corinthians 16:13 is a short verse, but it speaks volumes of Paul’s desire to see the Corinthian church continue on until the end.
