There were a number of first century Jewish Christians who were tempted to give up, some who already began leaving the faith… so what do you say to someone who is at their breaking point? what do you say to someone who is close to walking away from faith in Jesus? The author of Hebrews repeatedly turns their attention to who it is they are walking away from- Jesus. He knows if they could reaffix their attention, their focus on Him, they wouldn’t falter anymore.

In 2 Corinthians 3:1-7, Paul begins to address a concern some people had regarding letters of recommendation- Imagine asking the Apostle Paul for a letter of recommendation before allowing him to preach at the church he planted- Paul subtly changes the conversation to discuss the letter of the Law, the Old Covenant. It seems the peddlers of the Gospel were beginning to show that they were teaching salvation through the Law, rather than through the grace of Christ Jesus.
